Our does first and foremost must do their job at home well, but that doesn't mean they can't put on their best, head into town and leave a lasting impression!
With past backgrounds in both purebred beef cattle and holstein cattle, we are firmly rooted in agriculture and are familiar with the careful selection it takes to build up a herd of productive and efficient females that meet the needs of both the terminal and replacement breeding stock markets.
Our primary business is our family-run butcher shop where we market a combination of homegrown and locally raised fresh meat products. Our work in the butcher shop means we see first-hand the importance of strong carcass traits. We also recognize the importance of using the breed improvement tools that are available to us in order to reach our breeding goals. We use the Goat Herd Improvement Program (GHIP) to help measure performance and we use the Type Evaluation Program to help assess structural soundness and trueness to the Boer breed standards. Both programs are offered by the Canadian Meat Goat Association. We also value shows as a tool to see how our stock stacks up against others and to showcase our genetics to the public.
Our herd is not large but our commitments to our work in the butcher shop and our expectations of producing a high quality product means that all of our does and bucks need to earn a spot to stick around.
